WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University ran its softball
unbeaten streak to four games Saturday afternoon by sweeping N.C.
Wesleyan in a USA South Conference doubleheader.
Shenandoah (12-7-1, 4-2 USA South) gave up just three hits total
to the Bishops (10-9, 3-5).
In the opener, sophomore Brooke Over threw the
first no-hitter of her career while Amanda Litwin
had a two-hitter in the nightcap.
Over (6-4) struck out 11 in tossing her gem. She struck out
the first four batters she faced and all but one of the
Bishops starters.
Over's offense gave her all the support she would need by
scoring three runs on four hits in the fourth. Freshman Denise Mitchell
got things started with a double to left before Jolisa Jones and Catherine
Pruiett had a run-scoring double and single, respectively.
The Hornets completed the game one scoring with two unearned
runs in the fifth.
Ashley
Plaugher had two of the victors eight hits.
Shenandoah was held to just six hits in the nightcap, but
Shatora Lane made hers count by driving in a pair on a first inning
double to left.
Pruiett had the other RBI by plating Jones with a second inning
single. Jones had led off the frame with a triple.
Litwin (6-3) allowed singles in the fourth, sixth and seventh
innings and did not allow a runner into scoring position after the
first inning.
She had three strikeouts and walk in the win.
Shenandoah hosts Ferrum on Wednesday in another USA South
Conference doubleheader.
