WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University won its fifth
straight women's lacrosse game with a 16-11 non-league
victory over Hood College Thursday night on Sprint Field at Shentel
Stadium.
The Hornets (6-3) scored 10 of the game's first 13 goals,
but had to hold off the pesky Blazers (2-6) for the full 60
minutes.
Hood, on the strength of a 4-0 run midway through the second
half, cut the deficit to three goals with 15:19 remaining.
SU freshman Sydney Anderson
finally stopped the spurt with her goal off of a Jennie Ott assist 59
seconds later, but this goal failed to put HC away.
Lauren Perzan took the ensuing draw and raced right down the
field, scoring unassisted 13 seconds after Anderson's goal to
keep the visitors within three.
Shenandoah finally subdued the Blazers with Morgan Fields and Corrinne
Kosmowski goals at 12:21 and 9:06, respectively.
Perzan and Fields closed out the game's scoring by trading
a pair of unassisted goals in the final six minutes.
Junior Sara
Mucciaro led the victors with five goals while Ott had a
career-high five assists. Fields (four goals) and Anderson (two
goals, two assists) rounded out the Hornets with at least four
points.
Brandy Noel paced Hood with four goals. Her third tally, with
2:48 to play in the first, made her the Blazers' all-time
leading scorer.
HC goalie Sam Liptrap had 15 saves.
SU outshot its visitors 41-25, owned a 40-28 advantage in
groundballs and won 14 of 27 draw controls.
The Hornets return to USA South Conference play on Saturday with
a 3:00 home contest against Greensboro.
