BURLINGTON, N.C. - Second-seeded Greensboro College used a fast
start Friday afternoon to key a 22-4 USA South Conference
Tournament semi-final round victory over No. 3 Shenandoah.
The Pride (14-3) advance to Saturday's championship against
top-seeded Christopher Newport. The Captains opened semi-final
round play with a 20-2 win over No. 4 Ferrum.
With the score tied at 1-1 following a Sydney Anderson goal for
Shenandoah (8-8) at 28:03, GC reeled off the game's next five goals
to lead 6-1 by the 14:38 mark.
Anderson again stopped the string, this time with a
free-position goal at 12:37, before Greensboro finished the half by
scoring the final eight goals of the stanza.
This run became 14 straight as GC tallied six times in the first
18:56 of the second.
Ashley Heroth, at 8:58, and Corrinne Kosmowski, with seven
seconds remaining, bookended two Pride goals in the remaining
time.
Greensboro outshot SU 44-11, owned a 17-10 advantage in
groundballs and won 23 of the game's 28 draws.
Christie Hebert led the victors with five goals while Ashle
Nolen had four goals and three assists.
Hornets goalie Tori Beasley made 14 saves.
