WASHINGTON, D.C. - Shenandoah University continued its strong
start to the 2010 volleyball season by splitting a non-league
tri-match Saturday afternoon at Catholic University of America.
Shenandoah opened the day with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-14, 13-25,
25-17) victory over Washington (Md.) before being swept at 13, 26
and 18 by host Catholic.
Junior Rachel Maki paced SU (4-1) in the match against the
Shorewomen with 12 kills while Mary Harshman added 10 with 16
digs.
Sophomore Kelcy Brown had 33 assists and 18 digs.
Brown and Harshman were two of five women with double-digit digs
in the win over WC.
Catholic (5-2) dominated in the opening set before holding on in
sets two and three to clinch the victory.
Maki was once again the story offensively - she had a team-high
nine kills with Megan Gillispie adding eight.
SU opens up USA South Conference play on Wednesday at 6:00
against Ferrum.
