WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University recorded its second
straight home field hockey shutout with a 5-0 non-league victory
over the College of Notre Dame Tuesday afternoon.
SU (5-1) totally dominated the Gators (0-4) in the shutout
victory.
Shenandoah outshot its visitors 29-2, including 18-0 on goal and
won 12 of the game's 16 penalty corners.
Sophomore Sarah DeLuca gave the Hornets all of the offense they
would need with her tally off of a Paola Aguilar assist in the 17th
minute.
Aguilar, the team's leading scorer, figured in all but one of
the team's goals.
Amanda Mittelkamp had that lone goal that Aguilar was not
involved in, an unassisted tally at 20:00, before SU scored again
at 31:17 and 32:24 to take a 4-0 lead into the halftime
lockerroom.
Senior Kaitlin Sommer had the first of these goals, off an
Aguilar feed, with Aguilar closing the book the first half scoring
by finishing off a Katie Johnson assist.
Freshman Justina Ludwig had the lone goal of the second, scoring
from the top of the circle at 54:21 off another Aguilar assist.
The three assists is a new school record.
