Women's Soccer Tops Methodist

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned an important USA South Conference women's soccer victory with a 3-1 home win over Methodist Saturday afternoon at rainy Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium.

Shenandoah (6-4, 2-0 USA South) keeps its perfect conference record intact with the two-goal victory over the Monarchs (4-6-1, 1-1-1).

Junior Katie Cataldo scored the game-winner for SU in the 33rd minute when she headed home a Sarah Hensley corner.

The set-piece goal was the second of the contest for the Hornets.

In the 28th minute, Hensley set up sophomore Missy Volonino for the initial goal of the contest.

After Methodist tied it in much the same manner at 28:55, Cataldo headed home the game-winner into virtually an empty net to give SU a lead it would not relinquish.

With just over two minutes to play and MU playing a player down following a red card, senior Jessi Dennis set up sophomore Brittany Butcher with an insurance goal.

The shot was the 15th and final one of the contest for the hosts.

SU outshot the Monarchs 15-4 for the game and had seven of eight corners awarded.

Hornets keeper Kat Terza had to make just three saves.

Shenandoah hosts Greensboro on Sunday at 1 in another USA South Conference contest.
