Men Tie Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – Shenandoah University kept its USA South Conference men's soccer post-season hopes alive with a 2-2 tie at Ferrum College Saturday morning.

Shenandoah (2-10-2, 0-4-1 USA South) took the early lead on an Andrew Ralli goal just five seconds into the contest only to see Ferrum (3-10-3, 0-3-1) tie it midway through the half.

Ralli's tally is believed to be the fastest goal in men's soccer program history.

The Panthers tied it up with goals in the 27th and 30th minutes and took that 2-1 advantage into the halftime lockerroom.

Junior John Peterman then brought the game back to level with an unassisted tally in the 59th minute.

SU had two shots in the first 10-minute overtime session, but was unable to notch the golden goal.

Hornets keeper Anthony Light made three saves.

SU outshot Ferrum 20-19, including 11-5 on-frame, and had six of 11 corners awarded.

The Hornets and Panthers are now effectively tied for the sixth and final tournament USA South Tournament berth. SU can clinch the spot with a win next Saturday at home versus N.C. Wesleyan.

If the two teams remain tied at the end of the regular season, a coin flip will likely decide the tournament spot.

Shenandoah plays its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday at future ODAC opponent Randolph-Macon.
