Women's Soccer Tops Ferrum

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team took another step toward its goal of winning the 2011 USA South Conference regular season title with a 1-0 home victory over Ferrum Saturday afternoon.

Senior Sarah Hensley scored the lone goal of the game to keep SU (11-5, 5-1 USA South) within striking distance of league-leading Averett.

The Hornets host the Cougars on Sunday at 2:00 in another USA South Conference contest.

Following Hensley's goal, in which she lofted a 30-yard shot past FC keeper Caitlyn Deaton, SU locked down the Panthers (8-6-2, 4-2-1).

Ferrum managed just six total shots on goal in the contest, with Shenandoah keeper Kat Terza turning away all six, to post the shutout victory.

The shutout is the fourth of the season for Terza and ties the senior with Lauren Elliott '07 for most all-time.

Both women have 14 career shutouts.

Shenandoah also had seven of the game's 10 corners.
