Bishops Outlast Men

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting N.C. Wesleyan ended Shenandoah University's men's soccer season with a 3-1 USA South Conference victory Sunday night.

The Bishops (7-5-4, 4-1-1 USA South) scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute on an unassisted Omar Kanten tally.

NCWC needed that Kanten goal after Kevin Kupris brought the game back to level for SU (2-12-2, 0-5-1) with his goal at 62:00. Kupris took a cross from Ben Buono and slipped his shot past Bishops keeper Dylan Yeargin from just outside the 18-yard box.

Just under two minutes after Kanten's go-ahead goal, Wesleyan was awarded a PK after Shenandoah keeper Anthony Light was called for taking down a Bishops forward at the edge of the box.

Owen White stepped to the spot and beat Light to the left, effectively ending the contest.

The loss ends Shenandoah's season because the Hornets lost a coin flip to Ferrum for the sixth and final USA South Conference Tournament spot. SU would have qualified ahead of the Panthers with either a win or a tie Sunday night against NCWC.

Wesleyan outshot the Hornets 21-10 and had three of the game's four corner kicks.

Light made five saves for the hosts.
