HARRISONBURG, Va. - Host Eastern Mennonite erased a halftime deficit with three second half goals in a 3-1 ODAC field hockey victory over Shenandoah Tuesday evening.
Senior Megan Garrett scored the opening goal of the game for SU (3-9, 0-4 ODAC) but could only watch as Eastern Mennonite (6-5, 2-0) scored three times following the break.
Eastern Mennonite, which outshot SU 12-5 in the opening 35 minutes, tied the game up on a Nicole Bencsik unassisted tally at 40:59.
Barely two minutes later, Adriana Santiago set up Bencsik with what proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Royals got the final goal, an insurance tally from Carol Brinkley, in the 59th minute.
EMU outshot the Hornets 17-6 and had an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners.
SU keeper Sarah Clare had five saves, four of which came in the first half, in the losing effort.
Shenandoah hosts Randolph-Macon on Saturday at 1 in another ODAC contest. The game is also Senior Day and the Hornets five seniors will be honored prior to the contest.
