NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - No. 15 Christopher Newport University proved too much for Shenandoah in a 9-1 non-league field hockey victory Sunday afternoon.
The Captains (6-3) scored four goals in the first 16 minutes of the game and never looked back against Shenandoah (3-11).
The loss is the eighth straight for the young Hornets after starting the season with three wins in the first six games.
Senior Megan Garrett had the lone goal for SU, scoring off a Liz Grover assist in the 58th minute.
CNU outshot Shenandoah 25-4 and had 13 of the game's 14 penalty corners.
SU keeper Sarah Clare had 11 saves.
The Hornets return to ODAC action on Saturday with an 11 a.m. contest at Bridgewater.
