Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women Fall in Overtime

LYNCHBURG, Va.  – Rowan University ended the most successful season in Shenandoah women's soccer history with a 1-0 overtime victory Saturday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Veronica Rhea knocked home her own rebound to send the Profs (14-4) past Shenandoah (15-7-1) in the first sudden victory session at Shellenberger Field on the campus of Lynchburg College.

Rowan will play SUNY-New Paltz, who advanced past host Lynchburg 3-2 in penalty kicks, in Sunday's second round.

That LC/New Paltz game was scoreless in regulation.

SU and RU also battled to a scoreless tie in regulation, with Rowan outshooting SU 17-8, but the Hornets held a 5-4 advantage in corners.

The Profs seized control in the extra session, getting a header two minutes in before Rhea scored the golden goal on a great individual effort.

Shenandoah keeper Kat Terza, who had seven saves in the first 90 minutes, made the initial save but had no chance once Rhea was able to corral the rebound.

Terza finished the contest with eight saves.
