Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

'Cats Claw Past Men's Hoops

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Shenandoah University suffered through a long-second half scoreless drought in a 52-37 non-conference men's basketball loss at Randolph College Sunday afternoon.

The Hornets (1-6) were held without a bucket for the initial 6:02 of the second as Randolph (6-3) stepped up its defensive pressure.

Sophomore Avery Green, who led SU with 10 points, finally snapped the streak by making one of two at the line following a media timeout.

Green then brought the Hornets to within six points with a layup at 13:20, but this would be the visitors high-water mark for the remainder of the contest.

The WildCats scored 12 of the game's next 14 points to take a 42-26 lead by the eight-minute mark and coasted home to the 15-point victory.

Shenandoah led for the majority of the first half until a 6-0 Randolph run from the 7:39 to 5:56 marks gave the 'Cats their first lead of the contest.

Senior Derrick Woods-Morrow, who had six first-half points, closed this run with a slam dunk.

The two teams traded the lead twice more and were tied on one occasion before RC closed out the first by scoring seven of the final nine points in the stanza.

Randolph shot 46.3 percent to the Hornets 27.1 and owned a 39-25 advantage on the glass.

RC grabbed 32 of 37 rebounds off of SU missed shots.

Colton Hunt had 15 points and Woods-Morrow 14 for the hosts.

Shenandoah is off for the next five for final exams and returns to the court on Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan in another non-conference contest.
