Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wasps Outlast Men

EMORY, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team returned to the basketball court Friday evening with a 72-67 non-league loss at Emory & Henry.

Although E&H (4-6) led throughout the second half and by 13 with just under eight minutes remaining, SU (1-9) had a chance to tie in the final seconds of the contest.

Junior Dominic Chappell had that opportunity as he took a pass from senior Nick Brown at the top of the key with 15 seconds remaining following a missed Avery Green free throw.

Chappell took the 21-foot attempt, but the ball caromed off the back rim and senior Justin Long then missed on a putback attempt.

With 2.5 seconds remaining, Tyler Mullins sealed the victory for the Wasps by draining a pair from the charity stripe.

Emory & Henry, which missed six of its last eight free throw attempts, was 21 of 43 from the line to the Hornets' 13 of 20.

Shenandoah had its largest lead, five points, at the mid-point of the first half.

Green paced the Hornets with 19 points while Chappell added 13 and Matthew Thompson 10.

Armando Murrell had 16 and Malcolm Green 15 for the Wasps.

E&H shot 46 percent to 38 percent for SU. The Wasps also had a 47-33 advantage on the glass.

The Hornets are back in action on Monday and Tuesday at the Roanoke College Tournament. SU faces Swarthmore in Monday's 3 p.m. opening round game.
