WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University suffered through a cold shooting afternoon in a 69-65 USA South Conference women's basketball loss to visiting Meredith.
The Hornets (10-10, 6-7 USA South) missed 14 of their first 15 shots from the field as Meredith jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first 10 minutes of the contest.
Shenandoah shot 32.4 percent for the game, including 7 for 34 (20.6 percent) in the opening 20 minutes.
The Angels (5-14, 2-12) held SU to just one field goal (a Haley Smith jumper) during that opening 10-minute while receiving scoring from five different women on their offensive end.
Meredith's lead remained at least five points for the remainder of the opening half and it took a 31-24 lead into the halftime lockerroom.
SU was able to cut the deficit to four, 38-34, with 14:23 remaining, but MC answered this 6-0 Hornets run with a Bryana Holmes 3-pointer at the other end to maintain a multiple possession lead.
The Angels advantage remained at least five points the rest of the way.
Senior Sierra Edwards paced the Hornets with a game-high 24 points while freshman Sara D'Amico added 21.
Megan Rahn, who surpassed the 1000-point mark with a pair of first half free throws, had 20 for Meredith.
The Angels also outrebounded Shenandoah 48-42.
The Hornets host Mary Baldwin on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
