Softball Splits at Salisbury Tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – The Shenandoah University softball team split its opening two games of the Salisbury University Invitational Friday morning.

Shenandoah (7-5) suffered a hard-luck loss in a 1-0 defeat to Lynchburg before coming back to shut out Wilkes 7-0 in the second game of the day.

Junior Brooke Over (3-3) allowed just one hit in the loss to LC (10-2), but was tagged with the loss after allowing a leadoff walk in the fourth that eventually came around to score on a two-out single to center.

Over struck out six and walked three.

Jolisa Jones, Ashley Plaugher, Denise Mitchell, Heather Sink and Jordan Wolford had the Hornets hits.

Wolford (3-1) allowed just two hits in five innings of work in the game two victory over Wilkes. She struck out two and walked four before Misty Judd retired the final six Colonels to help SU record its second shutout of the spring.

The Hornets had 12 hits with Sink getting three hits in four at-bats. Senior Catherine Pruiett and freshman Morgan Coble were both 2 for 3.

Shenandoah scored the winning run in the bottom of the first when Jones walked and came all the way around to score via a throwing error on Coble's sacrifice bunt.

The Hornets conclude the tournament on Saturday with games against host Salisbury and Virginia Wesleyan.
