GREENSBORO, N.C. - No. 3/6 Shenandoah University continued its winning ways Saturday afternoon with a 16-1 USA South Conference baseball victory at host Greensboro.
Shenandoah (12-0, 5-0 USA South) used a 12-run seventh to end the game early against the Pride (9-10, 2-3).
It is the third league game in the past four that SU has stopped the contest due to the USA South Conference 12-run rule.
Senior Greg Van Sickler (5-0) was once again dominant on the mound, throwing his second consecutive complete game and just missing a second consecutive shutout.
Van Sickler struck out five, did not walk a batter and allowed only an unearned run in the third as GC managed only four singles off of the two-time All-America.
Van Sickler lowered his ERA this season to 1.36 and has 26 strikeouts against just three walks in 33.0 innings pitched in 2011.
The Hornets banged out 13 hits against five Pride pitches, including seven in that 12-run seventh.
Four players: Cory Nelson, Jake Pendergraft, Keaton Neeb and Kurt Krout, had at least two hits each with Nelson's 3 for 5 afternoon leading all players.
Neeb, Nick Beall and Van Sickler all drove in three runs with Neeb hitting a three-run HR in the seventh and Van Sickler a three-run double later in that same frame.
Ramel Graham (1-2) took the loss after allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits in 6 1/3.
These two teams complete their weekend series with a 1:00 Sunday contest.
