WINCHESTER, Va. - Junior Brooke Over tossed a no-hitter to headline Shenandoah University's USA South Conference softball split versus Averett Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (9-7, 1-1 USA South) needed nine innings to win game one, 1-0, before Averett (12-8, 1-1) held on for a 7-6 victory in the nightcap.
Over struck out 10 in throwing the gem; she missed a second perfect game of her by only allowing a seventh inning walk.
SU won the game in the bottom of the ninth as placed runner Denise Mitchell was sacrificed to third and then came home on a Jolisa Jones single to left.
Jones' hit was one of three the squad had in the game. Morgan Coble and Renoula Jonesalso had singles.
In the nightcap, AU scored three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to outlast Shenandoah by one run.
The Hornets left the tying run stranded on second base as game two ended.
Jolisa Jones and Renoula Jones were both 2 for 4 in game two while Coble had three hits and three RBI in four at-bats.
Sophomore Jordan Wolford also drove in a pair.
Brooke Hensley led the Cougars with a 3 for 5 afternoon that included a three-run HR and a two-run double.
Shenandoah is back in action on Tuesday with a non-league doubleheader against Mary Washington.
