WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University ran its women's lacrosse winning streak to eight games Thursday afternoon with an 18-7 non-league victory over Frostburg State.
The win for the Hornets (8-2) is the first-ever over the Bobcats (1-7).
Freshman Samantha Sisson tallied the opening goal of the game off an assist from senior Ashley Heroth and SU led 3-0 before Frostburg got on the board.
Shenandoah eventually scored five of the game's first six goals before taking a 10-3 lead into the halftime locker room.
Sisson, who led all scorers with five goals on the day, had three in the opening stanza.
After Ali Kapustin scored the opening goal of the second half for the Bobcats, SU put matters away with a 5-1 run in a span of just under 10 minutes.
The Hornets outshot FSU 31-9, won 16 of 27 draw controls and scooped up 23 groundballs to the Bobcats 20.
Nine different women scored for the hosts. In addition to Sisson's five goals, Heroth had three, Corrinne Kosmowski, Amy Rollins and Morgan Fields two each. Senior Jennie Ott had three points on a goal and two assists.
Freshman Ashley Cross had to make just three saves in the win.
Shenandoah can clinch a spot in the post-season USA South Conference Tournament with a win Saturday against Methodist. Opening draw is scheduled for 11:00.
