NORFOLK, Va. - Stevenson made its early lead stand up in a 5-4 non-conference softball victory Friday afternoon as part of the Virginia Wesleyan Beach Blast.
Stevenson (2-0) scored two runs in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth and then held on over the the Hornets (4-1).
Shenandoah got itself back in it with two in the fourth and one each in the fifth and sixth, but could not get the game-tying run.
Senior Jolisa Jones paced the Hornets in the loss with two hits in three at-bats while Jordan Wolford drove in a tun with a fourth inning double to right center.
SU was held to four hits on the day.
Junior Misty Judd (1-1) was the losing pitcher after allowing five runs (three earned) on three hits and three walks in 3.0 innings.
He also had three strikeouts.
Shenandoah also plays Frostburg State Friday evening.
