WASHINGTON, D.C. – Host Catholic University kept the Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team winless on the season with a 17-6 non-league victory over the Hornets.
Catholic (10-3) never trailed in the contest against SU (0-12), scoring the first three goals of the contest to help itself to a 6-3 after the first period.
PJ Cooper helped the Hornets stay in the contest with consecutive goals at 10:23 and 8:59, but CUA scored three of the final four in the opening stanza to maintain the three-goal advantage.
Mac Hedrick had the lone Shenandoah goal in this string, scoring off a Courtney Ledden assist with 2:12 remaining.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, Hedrick's goal would be the squad's last of the first half. Catholic held SU scoreless for a span of 21:32 while scoring eight of its during this time.
Kenney May finally snapped this drought at 10:40 of the third, but Shenandoah was unable to cut the deficit inside of seven goals the rest of the way.
Cooper led the Hornets with three goals with Ledden adding a goal and an assist.
CUA outshot Shenandoah 63-17, won 20 of 26 faceoffs and had a 48-21 advantage in groundballs.
SU goalies Andrew Fleischmann and Tyler Quinn combined for 13 saves.
Shenandoah returns to CSAC play on Saturday with a game at Immaculata.
