BURLINGTON, N.C. -  No. 5 Shenandoah ended No. 7 Averett's run in the 2011 USA South Conference Softball Tournament with a 3-0 elimination game victory Saturday evening.

Shenandoah (23-14) scored all of its runs in the third and then rode the arm of junior Brooke Over to continue its tournament championship hopes.

Over (16-7) tossed a two-hitter to take out the Cougars (22-20) and set up a 9:00 contest against the winner of the No. 4 Ferrum vs No. 6 Meredith elimination contest.

Over struck out four, walked one and allowed just singles in the first and fifth innings.

AU had three runners in scoring position all night, the last in the fifth, before Over retired nine straight to finish off the contest.

Catherine Pruiett and Renoula Jones got SU started in the third by each reaching on an error before freshman Heather Sink drove them both in with a triple to right.

One batter later, Morgan Coble, Sink's classmate, plated Sink with a single to center.

Sink's and Coble's hits were two of six that the Hornets had in the contest. Each of the first six batters in the Shenandoah lineup had one hit.

Nicole Difilippo (14-15) was the hard-luck loser. She gave up the three unearned runs on four hits and had three strikeouts in 3.0 innings.
