YORK, Pa. - Junior Brooke Over threw her second no-hitter of the 2011 season Tuesday afternoon as Shenandoah swept a non-league doubleheader from York (Pa.).
Over (20-7) struck out six, walked three and allowed the unearned run in the sixth to push Shenandoah (29-14) to a 3-1 victory in game one.
The Hornets trailed by two runs early in the nightcap before scoring once in the fifth and three times in the sixth to finish off the Spartans (18-16) in 5-3 victory.
The Hornets offense provided Over with one run in the first, third and sixth innings of the opener; the latter two runs were both unearned off of YCP starter Chelsea Bock.
Bock (8-5) gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk in 7.0 innings. She also struck out one.
Senior Jolisa Jones scored Shenandoah's first two runs - in the first, she beat out an infield single, was sacrificed to second and then moved to third on an infield groundout.
Classmate Ashley Plaugher then drove Jones in with a single to right.
Another single and sacrifice put Jones into scoring position in the third, but the run was unearned as she advanced to third base on a passed ball before scoring on a Heather Sink groundout.
Shatora Lane scored the Hornets final run by drilling a two-out double in the sixth and coming home when the Spartans couldn't field Lauren McCabe's groundball to second.
Jones had two of the victors five hits.
Plaugher got the three-run sixth started in game two by drawing a one-out walk. Morgan Coble and Denise Mitchell reached via an error and a single to right, respectively, to load the bases for junior Shatora Lane.
Lane brought home Plaugher with a groundout, tying the score, before pitcher Jordan Wolford helped herself out with a two-run single to right center.
Jones once again led the offense, this time with three hits, while Wolford was 2 for 3 with the two RBI.
In the pitching circle, she improved to 8-2 by allowing the three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks in 7.0 innings. She also struck out two.
Shenandoah completes its regular season with a non-league doubleheader Wednesday evening against Bridgewater. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30.
