FERRUM, Va. – Shenandoah University opened up its 2011 USA South Conference volleyball slate with a 3-0 victory over host Ferrum College Wednesday evening.

Shenandoah (5-2, 1-0 USA South) won at 19, 16 and 12 over the Panthers (0-5, 0-1).

SU needed just 55 minutes to earn its fourth straight match victory over Ferrum and its fourth straight win this season.

Sophomore Haley Smith led the Hornets to the win with a co-match-high 11 kills; Smith did her damage in just 13 attempts and did not have an error on the evening.

Junior Mary Harshman and freshman Samantha Schambach backed Smith up with seven kills each.

Kelcy Brown had 19 kills while Rachel Gross had four service aces.

Kayla Trippeer matched Smith by posting 11 kills for the hosts.

Shenandoah continues USA South Conference play this Saturday by hosting a tri-match with Methodist and Averett.

Play begins at noon when the Hornets take on Methodist.
