STAUNTON, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team earned its second USA South Conference victory of the season with a road sweep over Mary Baldwin Tuesday night.
The Hornets (6-4, 2-2 USA South) won 25-11, 25-22 and 28-26 over the Fighting Squirrels (1-12, 0-5).
SU needed just 12 minutes to earn the opening set victory.
Both teams fought off set points in the third, with Shenandoah serving for the match at 24-23 and 25-24 before finally clinching it when Haley Smith and Rachel Gross blocked back an MBC attack attempt with the Hornets leading 27-26.
Mary Baldwin had its chance to win at 26-25, but Smith and Samantha Schambach combined to send a first Squirrels attack back across the net for a set-tying point.
Schambach, who was at the service line as SU clinched the match, had a match-high 13 kills for the victors. She also paced the defense with 13 digs.
Smith and Rachel Maki backed up Schambach with nine kills each.
Maki completed her solid all-around game with four service aces, two solo blocks and 12 digs.
The Hornets continue this roadtrip with a Thursday match at future ODAC foe Eastern Mennonite.
