WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Washington and Lee University used a strong start to Wednesday's ODAC women's soccer contest to key a 3-1 victory over Shenandoah University.
The Generals (10-2-1, 7-1-1 ODAC) twice in the first half, including once in the first 20 minutes, to take a commanding lead over SU (5-9-1, 3-4-1).
Emily Scott had the opening goal of the contest, off of an Erin Harvey assist in the 19th minute, before Ainsley Daigle scored unassisted with 3:02 to play in the opening stanza.
Daigle's goal proved to be the game-winner.
After Katie Rossi made it 3-0 by converting a corner kick in the 64th minute, Shenandoah got itself on the board with an Ellen Strom goal at 80:44.
Unfortunately for the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium faithful, SU was unable to cut any deeper into the lead.
W&L had a 14-7 advantage in shots and took five of the game's seven corners.
Hornets keeper Nicole Gilbertson made three saves in 20:46 of relief action.
Shenandoah takes to the road on Saturday for an ODAC contest at Guilford.
