Volleyball Wins in Five

WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University wrapped up its 2012 home volleyball slate with a 3-2 non-conference victory over Frostburg State Thursday evening.

Shenandoah (12-14) was a winner at 21 in the opening set before the Bobcats (5-25) came back to win 25-19 in the second.

Sets three and four were again split, with SU winning 25-17 in the third and FSU 30-28 in the fourth.

Shenandoah finally clinched the victory with a 15-7 triumph in the decisive fifth.

The Hornets scored six of the first seven points of the fifth and eventually pushed the advantage out to 12-5 before clinching it with a Megan Gillispie kill and a Bobcats attack error.

Junior Haley Smith had a match-high and school record 20 kills to pace the victors with senior Mary Harshman adding 13.

Kelcy Brown and Blake Parkes had 30 and 19 assists, respectively.

Gillispie had 16 digs and Harshman 12 to lead the defense.

Shenandoah wraps up its regular season Saturday with a tri-match at Guilford. SU will face the host Quakers in an ODAC match as well as taking on former USA South foe William Peace in a non-league tilt.
