Hockey Eliminated in Heartbreaker

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Top-seeded Lynchburg College scored a pair of goals in the final three minutes Thursday afternoon to eliminate No. 5 Shenandoah from the 2012 ODAC Field Hockey Tournament with a 3-1 semi-final round win.

Lynchburg (16-3) scored in the 67th and 70th minutes to pull away from Shenandoah (11-8).

LC scored the game's first goal on a Kelsey Link tally just 20 seconds prior to halftime, but then found itself in a dogfight as SU had an answer.

Senior Sarah DeLuca deflected home an Alexandra Darrow shot in the 42nd minute to tie the game at 1-1.

The goal allowed by Lynchburg is just the second scored by ODAC teams against LC this season.

The two teams battled back and fourth following DeLuca's goal before Katie Kline received a cross goal pass from Link and was able to beat SU goalie Sarah Clare to the short side.

With 50 seconds remaining, Link had a second assist, feeding Lindsey Leonard, to provide the final margin.

Lynchburg outshot its visitors 31-9 and had a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Clare made 10 saves, including seven in the first half.

Shenandoah will announce its 2013 schedule in January.
