WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Emory and Henry took advantage of a cold shooting afternoon by the Shenandoah Hornets to key a 67-58 ODAC women's basketball victory over the Hornets Saturday afternoon.

Shenandoah (1-6, 0-2 ODAC) shot just 7 for 32 (22 percent) in the opening stanza as E&H (3-3, 2-0) jumped out to a 38-22 lead.

The Wasps also enjoyed a 26-19 advantage on the boards which led to a 26-14 bulge in points in the paint.

Coming out of the halftime locker room, SU scored the initial seven points of the second to cut the deficit to just nine, 38-29, but could get no closer until the waning moments of the contest.

Emory & Henry reasserted control by answering the Hornets opening run by scoring eight straight points in a span of 2:39.

This lead eventually reached 17 points before the hosts made one final run.

Shenandoah, on the strength of a 19-8 run from the 8:56 to :54 second marks, was able to cut the deficit to just seven, 65-58, but could get no closer.

The Wasps hit 1 of 2 from the line on their ensuing trip down the floor and then got a defensive stop in the final 20 seconds to secure the victory.

Holly Chittenden and Crystal Petrus led the hosts with 14 points each while Sara D'Amico added 12.

Chittenden, with a career-high 17 rebounds, posted her second straight double-double and third in the past four games.

Karina Farr had a game-high 24 points for the victors.

SU finished the game shooting 29 percent to Emory & Henry's 42 percent.

Shenandoah travels to Frostburg on Tuesday in a non-league contest.
