HARRISONBURG, Va. - No. 21/RV Shenandoah University posted its third straight non-league baseball victory with a 14-4 win over future ODAC rival Eastern Mennonite Wednesday afternoon.
Shenandoah (4-2) banged out a season-high 20 hits in the victory over the Royals (1-5).
After EMU tied the game with two runs in the second, the Hornets began to pull away with two in the third, two more in the fifth, three in the seventh and five in the eighth.
The game was halted after the eighth.
Senior Tucker Brown put SU in front to stay with his two-run dinger to left center with two outs in the third.
Brown plated classmate Cory Nelson, who had doubled to left center with one out.
Nelson led the 20-hit attack with a 5 for 5 day that included three RBI and four runs scored.
For the first time all season long, all nine Shenandoah starters had at least one hit.
Brown drove in four runs with Jake Pendergraft and Christian Frey each plating two.
Pendergraft was 3 for 5 on the afternoon.
Junior Jeff Stanek (1-0) earned the victory by scattering two runs on eight hits and one walk in 6.0 innings.
Stanek struck out four.
Freshman Adam Emerson recorded the final four outs with three strikeouts and a groundout to finish off EMU.
Beau Banglesdorf was 2 for 4 with three RBI for the hosts. He led off the Eastern Mennonite second with a solo HR.
Shenandoah is off tomorrow and continues this road trip with a non-league game at Lynchburg on Friday afternoon.
