Softball Drops Close One

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 25 Shenandoah University softball team suffered its second loss in three games with a 2-0 defeat to Lynchburg Saturday morning at the Salisbury University Invitational.

Senior Brooke Over (2-2) allowed just two hits, but it was enough for Lynchburg (6-9) to win the battle of the Hornets over Shenandoah (6-3).

Lynchburg scored both of its runs in the third as it parlayed two walks and a two-out single up the middle from Amber Sutler to produce the winning margin.

SU had runners in scoring position in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings, but left nine on base in falling to its future ODAC rival.

Juniors Denise Mitchell and Lauren McCabe both had two hits with McCabe getting doubles down the left field line in both the second and fourth frames.

Over had seven strikeouts in the complete game performance.

Shenandoah completes the tournament with a noon game against Wilkes (Pa.).
