Softball Sweeps Stevenson

WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 25 Shenandoah University earned its first home doubleheader sweep of the season with a 8-0 and 10-2 non-league softball victories over Stevenson University Tuesday afternoon.

Both victories for SU (9-3) came in five innings over the Mustangs (4-8).

In the opener, senior Brooke Over (3-2) threw her first no-hitter of the season, and third of her career, with an 11-strikeout gem.

Over missed throwing her second career perfect game by issuing two walks and hitting the first batter of the contest.

Sophomore Brittany Guepe gave Over all of the offense she would need by knocking in junior Denise Mitchell with a single to left in the bottom of the first.

Mitchell had led off the game with a triple to dead center and Guepe wasted little time in driving her in with the game's first run.

Shenandoah added six runs in the second before scoring the final run (and ending the game in the process) in the fifth.

Guepe led an 11-hit attack with a 3 for 3 performance while Mitchell and Jordan Wolford were both 2 for 3.

Mitchell had two RBI and Wolford one.

Morgan Coble also drove in a pair on a second-inning triple to center.

SU scored two runs in the first inning of the nightcap only to see Stevenson tie it with a pair of its own in the top of the second.

The Hornets then took the lead for good with two runs in the third, scored two more in the fourth and ended matters early with a four-run fifth.

Guepe, Coble, Shatora Lane and Heather Sink all had two hits in game two with Mitchell driving in three, Coble two and Wolford two.

Amanda Litwin (2-1) did not allow a run on three hits in 3.0 innings of relief work for Wolford.

Shenandoah opens up USA South Conference play tomorrow at Mary Baldwin.
