STAUNTON, Va. - Shenandoah University opened up its final USA South Conference softball slate Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Mary Baldwin College.
Shenandoah (11-3, 2-0 USA South) was a 12-1 winner in the opener before taking game two 8-3.
Game one against the Squirrels (3-9, 0-2) was halted after five innings due to the NCAA mercy rule.
Senior Brooke Over (5-2) was the winner in game one, striking out 10 and allowing just two hits in the complete game performance.
Sophomore Morgan Coble was 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored while Jordan Wolford was 2 for 2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Heather Sink and Shelby Riley also had two hits.
SU had 17 hits in the game and six of its 12 runs were unearned due to two MBC errors.
Mary Baldwin had a 1-0 lead in game two thanks to one run in the first, but the Hornets responded with two in the fifth and six in the sixth to take control of the contest.
Over, who came on in the middle of the fourth, earned her second win of the afternoon with 3 2/3 innings of relief work.
Over struck out eight and allowed two runs on three hits in her first relief appearance of the spring.
Brittany Guepe had three hits and Denise Mitchell, Lauren McCabe and Wolford chipped in with two hits each.
Shenandoah hosts Peace on Saturday in another USA South Conference doubleheader.
