HARRISONBURG, Va. - Future ODAC rival Eastern Mennonite topped Shenandoah University 2-0 in non-league softball action Wednesday afternoon.
The Royals (17-3) scored an unearned run in the fifth before getting a solo HR in the sixth to top SU (14-9).
The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but game two was cancelled due to thunderstorms in the area. In game one, there was a 45-minute delay in the middle of the sixth inning because of the same storm cell.
Royals pitcher Lisa Lee (7-2) held the Hornets without a hit until the seventh; sophomore Heather Sink prevented Shenandoah from being no-hit with a one-out single to center.
Lee struck out two and walked one.
Hornets pitcher Brooke Over (6-7) was outstanding, striking out 12 and walking just two in the complete game performance.
Over allowed five hits.
SU is back in action on Saturday with a USA South Conference doubleheader against N.C. Wesleyan.
