Women's Lax Shuts Out LaGrange

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's lacrosse team recorded its second shutout of the season with a 21-0 USA South Conference victory over LaGrange.

The win sets up a regular season championship contest next week for Shenandoah (10-2, 6-0 USA South).

The Hornets will face defending champion Christopher Newport at home next Saturday beginning at noon.

The winner of that contest will earn both the regular season title and the No. 1 seed at the upcoming USA South Conference Tournament in Burlington, N.C.

SU wasted little time in dispatching the shorthanded Panthers (3-9, 2-5), scoring three goals in the opening 101 seconds.

Electing to play 10 v 10 because LC was shorthanded, Shenandoah got all of the offense it would need at 29:06 when Amy Rollins finished off a Mary Kogler feed right on the LaGrange goal.

The Hornets scored again at 28:51 and 28:19 before getting the running clock moving on a Liz Grover goal at 21:15.

Shenandoah took a 14-0 lead into the halftime break has it took 20 of 21 shots in the stanza.

The second half brought more of the same with SU holding a 14-4 shot advantage.

Hornets goalkeeper Ashley Cross had four saves on the day.

Shenandoah, which held a 34-5 shot advantage, won 19 of 23 draw controls and scooped up 18 of 24 groundballs

Twelve different women registered at least one point and 11 scored at least one goal.

Shenandoah travels to Susquehanna tomorrow for a non-league contest.
