Softball Splits at Salisbury

SALISBBURY, Md. - The No. 25 Shenandoah University softball team split its opening two games at the Salisbury University Invitational Friday afternoon.

The Hornets (6-2) began the day with a 9-1 loss in five innings to King's (Pa.) before downing D'Youville (N.Y.) 5-1 in the nightcap.

King's (9-1) scored six runs on five hits in the first to take a commanding lead over SU.

The first six hitters scored as the Monarchs sent 11 women to the plate off of Shenandoah pitchers Amanda Litwin and Jordan Wolford.

Litwin (1-1) gave up four runs on four hits before Wolford took over prior to the fifth batter of the contest.

SU was held to just one hit in the contest, an RBI single from Morgan Coble in the top of the first.

Coach Marlena Kotynski's club rebounded with a nine-hit performance in the nightcap against D'Youville (2-2).

Coble, Wolford and Lauren McCabe all had two hits with Wolford driving in two on a solo HR in the second and a single to right in the fifth.

Litwin tossed a complete game to earn the win. She had four strikeouts against four walks and six hits.

Shenandoah plays future ODAC rival Lynchburg as well as Wilkes on the final day of the Invitational.
