Bridgewater Sweeps Softball

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Shenandoah University wrapped up pre-USA South Tournament softball play Wednesday by dropping a non-league doubleheader with No. 23 Bridgewater College.

Bridgewater (26-4) was 7-4 winner in the opener before taking game two 10-4.

The Eagles scored three unearned runs in the opener that proved to be the difference over SU (20-15).

BC scored two runs in the first (both unearned) along with one in the second and three in the third to take the commanding lead over the Hornets.

Shenandoah clawed back with one in the third and three more in the fifth, but could get no closer.

Junior Lauren McCabe drove in three of those runs with a three-run double in the fifth while sophomore Brittany Guepe had two hits in four at-bats.

Senior Brooke Over (10-10) took the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits and three walks in 4.0 innings.

She struck out three before turning it over to Jordan Wolford for the final two frames.

The two teams were tied at 4-4 in the sixth inning of the nightcap only to see Bridgewater pull away with six runs on two hits and two crucial SU errors.

All six runs were unearned and Melanie Lamb had the big blast with a grand slam HR off of Over.

McCabe and Heather Sink both had two hits for the Hornets with Sink driving in a run on a second inning single.
