BURLINGTON, N.C. - No. 3 Ferrum College used an 11-hit attack to key a 15-2 victory over No. 6 Shenandoah in the opening round of the USA South Conference Softball Tournament Friday morning.
Shenandoah (20-16) falls into a loser's bracket contest against Peace with the five-inning loss to the Panthers (30-11).
SU will be the home team against PC this afternoon at 3:00.
Ferrum scored seven runs in the second and eight more in the fourth to take the commanding lead over the Hornets.
Shenandoah, which had eight hits of its own, got on the board in the fifth on a two-run double by sophomore Heather Sink.
Sink plated Erica Kondzielawa and Denise Mitchell, who had reached on an infield single and a single to left, respectively.
Brooke Over (10-11) took the loss for SU. She allowed six runs (four earned) on four hits in 1 2/3 innings.
Lauren McCabe paced the offense with two hits.
