WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University earned its first men's soccer victory of the 2012 season Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 non-league triumph over Goucher College.
Freshman Eduardo Santiago tallied the lone goal of the game for the Hornets when he converted a feed from classmate Gerard Talbot-Paul in the eighth minute.
Santiago received Altamirano's cross in the middle of the pitch, split two defenders and then pushed the ball past on-rushing GC keeper Matt Sinatro from 10 yards out.
Goucher (0-1-1) stepped up its pressure, taking 16 of the game's next 17 shots and nine of 10 corners, but the SU (1-1) defense was up to the task.
Junior keeper James Dutcher had 10 saves with his final one coming on a point-blank shot in the 86th minute.
The shutout is the third of his career.
Shenandoah is back in action on Wednesday at Catholic in a 4:00 non-league contest.
