Women's Soccer Claws 'Cats

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Shenandoah University earned its second ODAC women's soccer win of the season with an 8-2 victory at Randolph College Saturday afternoon.

Despite the blowout score, SU (4-6-1, 2-2-1 ODAC) found itself in a tie game late in the first half as Randolph (5-5, 1-5) scored on its first shot of the game.

The Hornets answered that equalizing goal with a Harmon Hall unassisted tally in the 39th minute before Missy Volonino scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon in the 42nd minute.

Shenandoah then scored in the 46th, 48th, 62nd, 64th and 66th minutes to take commanding lead.

RC closed the book on the day's scoring by converting a corner kick in the 75th minute. The deflection was just the WildCats second shot of the day and one of seven they totaled for the afternoon.

SU put 25 of its 37 shots on goal and enjoyed an 8-2 advantage in corners.

Danielle Burris, who had the opening goal of the game, and Volonino had two goals each for the victors.

Freshman Catherine Major matched Burris and Volonino's point totals by registering a goal and two assists.

Shenandoah travels to Randolph-Macon on Wednesday for a 4:15 ODAC contest.
