Hockey Tops Blazers

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University field hockey earned its second straight victory Tuesday afternoon with a 4-1 non-league home win over Hood College.

Shenandoah (2-1) wasted little time in jumping on the Blazers (1-1), scoring a goal just 80 seconds in.

Awarded a penalty corner, freshman Alexandra Darrow inserted the ball at the top of the circle to senior Amber VanHorn, who ripped her shot to the near side past HC keeper Jamie Wingo.

Darrow set up what proved to be the game-winner as well, feeding senior Sarah DeLuca right on the doorstep in the 28th minute.

Darrow and Hannah Johnson both scored unassisted in a 30-second span midway through the second half before Hood finally got on the board thanks to a penalty stroke with 15 seconds remaining.

SU outshot the Blazers 12-4 and had a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Sarah Clare had all three of her saves in the second half.

The Hornets host Frostburg State on Thursday.
