Macon Rallies Past Women

ASHLAND, Va. – Host Randolph-Macon snapped a six-game losing streak with a 70-69 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah Tuesday evening.

Freshman Khajae Hester gave the Yellow Jackets (2-11, 2-3 ODAC) the game-winning points by hitting a pair of free throws with seven seconds remaining.

Shenandoah (6-8, 2-3) inbounded the ball following a timeout and had two shots at the game-winning bucket, but Ashley McGhee missed a layup and then had her stick back attempt go off the bottom of the rim as the buzzer sounded.

Hester's free throws represented the 17th and final lead change of the game.

The Hornets shot a stellar 22 of 24 (92 percent) from the line from the game and took their final lead as junior Sara D'Amico converted a three-point play with 13 seconds remaining.

Like SU, Macon took a timeout following D'Amico's completion of the three-point play to set up a play of its own.

Hester drove the lane and was fouled by D'Amico to put herself on the line, where she canned the game-winning points.

Shenandoah placed five players in double figures, led by freshman Imani Heggins' 15 points. D'Amico had 12 and Corin Scott 11 while both Crystal Petrus and Nicole Gilbertson added 10.

Petrus also had a game-high 10 rebounds.

SU had a 48-35 advantage on the glass but was outscored 32-28 in the paint and had just a 17-13 advantage in second chance points.

Sarah Parsons had 18 points for the hosts.

Shenandoah continues this road trip with a 2:00 game at Guilford Saturday afternoon.
