Marlins Slip Past Women

WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Virginia Wesleyan made the most of its singular significant offensive chance in a 1-0 ODAC women's soccer victory over Shenandoah Friday night.

Awarded its lone corner kick of the contest in the 54th minute, VWC (9-4-2, 6-3 ODAC) switched the field to get an opening, where Kristen Cherry found Jasmine Dao in the middle of the pitch for the only goal of the contest.

Shenandoah (8-6-1, 6-2-1) pelted the Marlins net with nine shots and won 10 corners on the night, but could not find the back of the VWC net.

SU had its best chance in the middle of the first half as senior Jenna Kline had a shot right from the doorstep following a corner, but Marlins defender Allie Ketzler was able to clear the ball off the line to keep the game scoreless.

Following the Virginia Wesleyan goal, Shenandoah forced VWC keeper Megan Gerhart to make four of her six saves and had three corner kicks, but was turned back on each occasion.

SU had a 9-6 advantage in shots and keeper Erin Septer made three saves.

The Hornets take to the road on Wednesday for a 4:00 ODAC contest at Washington and Lee.
