Eagles Sweep Volleyball

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Host Bridgewater College prevented Shenandoah University from furthering its ODAC Volleyball Tournament hopes by sweeping the Hornets 3-0 Friday night at Nininger Hall.

The Eagles (14-14, 3-6 ODAC) won at 12, 17, and 14 over the Hornets (10-14, 2-6) to take over eighth place in the league standings in the process.

The top eight teams in the league make the post-season tournament with head-to-head results used as the primary tiebreaker.

Shenandoah had its best chance for victory in the second set as the squad found itself locked in a 10-10 tie following a BC attack error.

The Eagles took a timeout and this point and it worked – Bridgewater reeled off 10 of the next 13 points to take a 20-13 lead before eventually winning 25-17.

The hosts never trailed in the third and coasted home to the victory after jumping out to a 10-2 lead.

Junior Rachel Gross paced SU with six kills while Haley Smith had four and Samantha Schambach and Allie Pieper three each.

Sophomore Taylor Anderson led the defense with 14 digs and Jasmine Callahan had 16 assists.

Shenandoah is right back in action tomorrow morning in an 11 a.m. ODAC match at Eastern Mennonite.
