WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team secured itself a tie for second place in the ODAC regular season with a 4-1 victory over Randolph-Macon Wednesday afternoon in the regular season finale for both schools.

Shenandoah (10-9, 6-2 ODAC) and Macon (9-9, 6-2) share the spot but the Hornets earn the No. 2 seed at the upcoming ODAC Tournament based on today's head-to-head result.

This means that coach Ashley Smeltzer's club earns a bye into the tournament semi-finals and will host the winner of the No. 3 Randolph-Macon vs No. 6 Washington and Lee game on Wednesday, November 6.

That semi-final round contest is scheduled for 4 p.m.

R-MC took the early lead in Tuesday's contest, scoring just 2:11 in as Jenna Marlette fed Lauren Seal right on the doorstep to give the visitors the early advantage.

Macon held the Hornets to just two shots, and had seven more of its own in the opening stanza, but was unable to extend its advantage.

Just more than five minutes into the second, SU began its comeback as sophomore Sarah Brock, the current ODAC Player of the Week, redirected an Alexa Lapp pass inside the left post for the tying goal.

Brock's classmate, Presha Merritt tallied what proved to be the game-winner on an unassisted goal at 47:23 before Ashley Cross and Kelani Bailey added to the lead with goals at 51:54 and 61:38.

Bailey's goal came off of a penalty corner.

R-MC had a 20-12 advantage in shots, including 12-10 in the second half, but Sarah Clare made nine saves to help her squad to the upset victory.

Macon also took 14 of the game's 20 corners.
