GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Host Gettysburg College used a five-goal run in the second half to key a 6-1 non-league field hockey victory over Shenandoah Tuesday afternoon.
The Bullets (6-4) scored four times in the first 15:04 of the second half to pull away from Shenandoah (5-8).
After GC took the early lead with a goal in the third minute of the contest, junior Ashley Cross tied the game for SU with an unassisted goal 45 seconds prior to the halftime gun.
Cross dribbled to the right hash and ripped home her shot from five yards out for the tying score.
Gettysburg then opened the second with goals in the 43rd, 47th, 50th and 51st minutes to take the commanding lead.
The final two goals of this run came 52 seconds apart.
Sarah Clare made three saves in 50:56 of action before turning it over to Katelyn Gregory. Gregory made two stops and allowed the hosts' final goal of the game.
The Bullets outshot Shenandoah 19-7 and had a 13-3 advantage in penalty corners.
SU returns home on Saturday for a 4:00 ODAC contest against Virginia Wesleyan. This game is also Senior Day for the Hornets.
