ARLINGTON, Va. – Host Marymount University outlasted Shenandoah in non-conference volleyball action Tuesday night at the Verizon Sports Arena.
Marymount (14-8) was a 3-1 victor over the Hornets (9-12), winning at 21 and 19 in the opening two sets before SU won the third at 21.
The Saints then clinched the victory by winning 25-18 in the fourth.
Shenandoah trailed for most of that third set and was down one as late at 21-20 before closing MU out by scoring the final five points of the set.
Sophomore Allie Pieper had the set clinching point with a kill off of a Rachel Cerretani set.
The Hornets carried this momentum into the fourth by opening that set with four straight points, but Marymount answered with an 8-0 run of its own and never trailed again.
Junior Ashleigh Tanis paced SU with 11 kills while Haley Smith added 10.
Jasmine Callahan had 26 assists in running the offense with Taylor Anderson and Rachel Gross each posting 17 digs.
Gross, with nine kills, just missed a double-double.
Shenandoah continues this road trip Thursday night with a 7 p.m. non-league match at Hood.
