Women's Soccer Shuts Out Maroons

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's soccer team has advanced to its second straight ODAC Tournament semi-final with a 2-0 victory over fifth-seeded Roanoke College Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (11-7-1) snapped a Maroons (10-6-2) eight-game unbeaten streak with the two-goal victory.

Roanoke had not been beat since SU downed the Maroons 1-0 in double overtime at the end of September.

Saturday's ODAC Tournament quarterfinal did not need extra time as freshman Alysha McCleaf tallied off of a Kelsie Luddington assist in the 70th minute to give coach Liz Pike's club a lead it would not relinquish.

Another freshman, Averi Rosena, finished off a Courtney Stull feed in 3:25 after McCleaf's goal to put the contest out of reach.

Hornets keeper Erin Septer made five saves to record her fourth solo shutout of the season, and second against Roanoke this year.

Shenandoah outshot its visitors 12-11 and had a 3-2 advantage in corners.

With the win, SU travels to top-seeded Lynchburg for Tuesday's semi-final round. This is the second consecutive year the two hornets have met in the semis.
