ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Shenandoah University completed its regular season Saturday with a pair of 3-1 losses to non-league opponents.
Shenandoah (14-16) opened the day with a 3-1 loss to Cabrini (27-4) before falling in the final match of the day by the same score to the host Elizabethtown Blue Jays (17-15).
SU now awaits the start of the ODAC Tournament on Wednesday. The Hornets are the eighth seed in the tournament and will travel to top-seeded Washington and Lee for a quarterfinal round match.
The semi-finals and finals are on Saturday at the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
After Shenandoah tied the Cabrini match at 1-1 with a 25-23 victory in the second set, the Cavaliers closed it out with wins at 11 and 18 in the third and fourth.
CC won the opening set 25-15.
Junior Rachel Gross paced SU with 14 kills while Samantha Schambach added nine and Allie Pieper six.
Schambach and Katy Griffith both had 15 digs to lead the defensive effort.
E-town won a close opening set at 22 to take the early lead before the Hornets rallied with a 26-24 victory in the second.
Unfortunately for Jaime Terenzi's club, the Blue Jays won at 22 and 16, in the third and fourth, respectively, to seal the win.
Senior Haley Smith had a match-high 15 kills with Gross adding 10.
Jasmine Callahan paced the offense with 35 assists.
Taylor Anderson had a team-high 13 digs.
