LYNCHBURG, Va. – Host Lynchburg College used a strong start to the second half Wednesday night to key a 69-44 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah.

The game was the league opener for both schools.

Shenandoah (0-3, 0-1 ODAC) trailed Lynchburg (1-2, 1-0) by just eight, 31-23, at the half, but saw LC pull away following the break.

Lynchburg, the preseason No. 3 selection in the ODAC race, shot 47 percent from the field (15 of 32) following the break to outscore SU by 17 points in the final 20 minutes of play.

Coach C.K. Calhoun's club was held to just 26 percent shooting (8 of 31) in the same span.

Junior Shannan Allan led the victors to the win with a game-high 20 points, including 18 in the first half.

Allan was 7 of 9 from the field and 2 of 2 from the line in the opening stanza to help her club to that eight-point advantage.

Senior Crystal Petrus paced SU with 16 points while junior Holly Chittenden had a game-high 14 rebounds.

Chittenden's 14 boards helped Shenandoah to a 46-37 advantage on the glass.

Sophomore Imani Heggins backed up Petrus and Chittenden with eight points and nine rebounds.

Calhoun's squad is back in action on Saturday with a 2:00 non-conference contest at St. Mary's of Maryland.
